Casa

Short // 2020 // An experimental documentary exploring intersectionality and gentrification.

Casa mirrors the story of two disappearing Los Angeles communities. It features a Chinatown reimagined with step-printed frames and is narrated by a Boyle Heights native.

Making this project was very personal for me. During my weekends spent volunteering in Chinatown, I've noticed many changes throughout the area. Gentrification was a topic I've always wanted to explore but hesitated because I felt that there was a larger story to tell. I was later introduced to a Boyle Heights native, Raul. Over ice cream, we talked about growing up in the area, moving away, and the changes he saw returning. By intertwining both audio and visual stories, I wanted to draw parallels between these two communities.
